TV Catch up

Last weekend I sat down for one of my favorite activities - catching up with a little TV from back home.  Saturday I caught the an episode of Grey's Anatomy.  With the exception of one scene, I can't really remember what the episode was about, but I've been thinking about that one scene for days.

One of the new characters (I have yet to figure out their names) told Meredith, who was upset about something, to be a Who.  When she looked at him like he was an idiot - he finished explaining.

He was telling her to be a like a Who from Whoville in the classic book - "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."  When the Whos woke up and saw the Grinch had stolen their gifts and trees, they didn't let him spoil things.  Instead they sang, and they sang and Christmas came even without the gifts and decorations.

What a great philosophy for life!  One I've been practicing for a few weeks.  Coming to Delhi had gotten difficult, something I dreaded.  For some reason when I set off for this visit, I came having already decided to enjoy it.  To take the time to do the things here I enjoy, to take advantage of the new and difference experiences I can have here.  To control what I could and enjoy the lessons that come from the rest.  And most of all, to not let the hard things get to me as much.

This attitude has made a world of difference in my experiences here this visit.  I'm not saying there haven't been hard times, or that I haven't missed home.  I'm just saying, that by choosing, like Cindy Lou Who to sing instead of cry, I've been a happier person.

One of the very first songs I posted on this blog remains one of my favorites, one of those songs I go back to over and over again when I need to find a way to move forward.  I pulled it out again the other night and reminded myself to focus on the things I can change, to focus on the things I can learn and to accept the rest.
