Heavenly Glow

I happened to walk past one of the churches downtown just as the sun was behind the steeple.  Most of my photos ended up completely overexposed  - you photo experts out there, what could I have done to prevent the overexposed shots?  I did manage to get one shot that worked - I love the way the sun makes the steeple glow.

I've been listening to a lot of Amos Lee this week - and I can't help but smile whenever "Southern Girl" comes on - because I'm enjoying my months as a southern girl.

It's beautiful though!
You have to expose for the sky, instead of the church and find a happy middle ground for the two.
Pain in the butt.
So you wait until the sun is in a better location. LOL! ;)

I'm still trying to adjust to the overly-bright summer sunshine, myself, so I'm interested to hear everyone's suggestions...

However, as long as at least one photo turns out great (as your certainly did!), then I'm satisfied.

It is a great pic, and sometimes that overexposed pic adds "character". Also, shooting in RAW will give you more control over the exposure level without distorting like it does with JPEGs in Photoshop. I think the pic is great though the way it is... :)

Very pretty pic. You are getting good. Maybe you'll have to do the kids pictures next time!!

It took me a long time to get the sun thing figured out! If you are shooting in manual...turn your ISO down to 100 and your F-stop up. Every camera is different but an a higher f-stop and a higher shutter speed will definately help.
Great picture though! Keep trying it will come to you!

great photo! it looks good as it is, but you can play around with the aperture and shutter speed like other posters suggested. there are some good photography sites out there that will explain these features in manual mode on your camera. good luck!
