The Sunday Creative - Obsolete

I'm so glad Justine agreed to host the Sunday Creative for Maegan for a while.  Since it is the only challenge I participate in regularly, I would have missed my weekly push to try something different.  I fell in love with my idea for this photo right away, but I'm not completely thrilled with the photos, but with a little help from PW's actions and some textures I think it is at least interesting.

My parents built a new house about 15 years ago on a vacant piece of land about a block and a half from the house I grew up in.  I'm from a small town where we all pretty much live by the motto of using what you have and making it work.  So the fact that the plot of land had 3 buildings: a couple of small sheds and an old outhouse didn't faze my family.  We didn't even consider having them removed.  Instead my parents made some repairs to the sheds, added shelves, power, paint and siding and now have a workshop/garage and storage shed.  The outhouse was more of a problem.  Who wants to look out their back window at an outhouse?

My dad cleverly hid the outhouse behind some trellis fencing and now uses it as a tool shed.  So while it may be obsolete as an outhouse its still useful and proves that small town ingenuity can be an amazing thing.

I discovered this cd and band at the library this week - what awesome luck:  Band of Annuals - "Thought I'd Have Learned."

Check back in tomorrow for a very special Saturday Guest Post!

I love this, I like the tones and textures you have added to it as well, it makes such a great interesting shot and I love the story behind it. I can't imagine how people used to go to the outhouse in the middle of the night!

Great interpretation, Jamie! Justine had a really tough prompt for her first week out of the gate! But you certainly rose right to it...as always! xo

I think the outhouse has real potential...think of all the parties (JK). It's actually the most elegant looking outhouse I've ever seen. My husband's grandmother told me that her parents didn't have indoor plumbing so it wasn't that long ago that it was a very useful thing to have.

this I really like Jamie. I've never experimented with actions and textures and don't have any version of Photoshop. as I'm a beginner, what would you recommend?

That's a lovely photo of a very clever reclamation of the old outhouse! My dad, a New Englander, often quoted the Yankee saying, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without," and instilled that principle in me, so it's really gratifying to see that concept put to such creative and practical use by your folks. And I enjoyed your interpretation of "obsolete," as well as that lovely song in the YouTube video. I'm really liking your taste (and finds) in music! :-)

Jamie-don't sell yourself short. Great photo and perfect for obsolete. I'm so sorry I missed the chance to post this week. Next week for sure.
Your family home site sounds like a wonderful place.
New computer this week, so hope to do a better job keeping up now that commenting takes a reasonable amount of time rather than an eternity. Happy day to you.
