Friday Musings

I have a small (really minor in the scope of world priorities) problem.  My spelling, which was never anything to write home about in the first place, has gotten worse.

Five years ago I went to work for a company which uses U.K. English.  I had to learn how to spell all over again.  I may have been too successful, now instead of being a bilingual speller, I find I can't get my typing fingers to remember how to spell "American" which means I'm wearing out the delete key on my keyboard. There is still hope for me, I haven't yet found a reason to start a sentence with "whilst."

As I said - a very small problem, but one that has been driving me crazy this week (and don't get me going on my inability to master the metric system - why oh why doesn't the US education system spend more time on this, or probably more accurate, why I didn't I pay more attention.)

What has been driving you crazy this week?

One thing that hasn't driving me crazy is this great song recommendation from the awesome Kristine at Blue Elephant Photography:

For me this week, it is too much to do, too little time!
Not much different from last week, or the week before that, or....
Have a wonderful weekend!

you make me laugh, just when I need it.
I'm currently hoping and praying for whorled peas as this current situation on the other side of the world right now is worrisome.

haha!! Looking forward to finding a sentence starting with 'whilst' ;D Know what you mean about poor spelling being a progressive thing...I'm usually a pretty good speller, but I find after having lived in Finland for almost 10 years and speaking/writing Swedish daily, all of a sudden I can't for the life of me remember how to spell the easiest of words, or I'll throw in a Swedish spelling of a similar word...and don't even get me going on the grammar! It's true that it's the prepositions that disappear first ;D Metric system?? Thankfully, it's the only system I've ever known...the Imperial system, however, aarrghh! WHO invented THAT, for cryin' out loud? There's NO logic in it what. so. ever! LOL With metric, however, you're good as long as you can count to 10. (so, you're way better off knowing the Imperial system first, really...)

Super fun post, my friend! Have a lovely weekend <3

Oh the metric system! I went through school learning it but chose instead to adopt the Imperial one in my life. Inches, feet and yards are just so much easier to grasp. LOL.
Cheers to an awesome weekend.

Hey Jamie....see your mojo is right there in your thoughts. What a fun and clever post and such a sweet video-
My problem is I think I'm an OK speller-and then I see the mistakes later. Whoops. And sometimes I do use the word "whilst" and likely have no business doing so.
As for the metric system-yuck.
Have a good weekend. Hoping for sun for you and for me.

ha! I have noticed this too! I work with a 3rd grader helping him spell and I'm second guessing myself all the time!

I used to be great at spelling, but spell check has made me completely dependent on a computer to tell me what is right. Or not. It sucks and I know that all I have to do is pay attention and be present for just a couple of seconds, but really it's just so easy to be lazy and let a computer do the work for you.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Great post! What's bothering me this week? The four heaping baskets of laundry I keep telling myself I'm going to fold. I figure I still have some time. I'm not out of underwear yet. Have a great week!

This post made me giggle so much - I can completely relate. I find myself so confused as to writing in British/Australian spelling or US spelling. The company I currently work for are German but writing in US-english, and then my mum goes crazy if anything (blog, emails etc etc) have US-english spelling. Makes my typing fingers quite confused! As for measuring I still haven't worked out why the UK and the US are yet to adopt a system that is based on 10s and 100s - more logical and easier to count.

Haha, my spelling went to heck when I took German in high school. That language actually follows rules. LOL.

I loved this song - thanks for sharing!
