Let's All Give it a Try

For those of us in the US today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I loved learning a bit more about him thanks to the specials online and on the news and I also loved having the day off.  I spent the morning traveling home after a long weekend at my parent's and spent the afternoon catching up on email and blogs - I'm hoping to start the week feeling almost caught up - which would be a nice change.

While I was catching up I thought I'd pass on a little something I learned recently - how to turn off word verification for commenters on my blog - I'm just sorry I didn't do so sooner.

Turns out I'm not the only one who hates it, Ashley Sisk, posted about it last week and linked to a great tutorial at Forever'n Ever'n Always Photography on how to get rid of that pesky word verification and how to attach your email to your google account so when you comment I can send a response.  I'd love it if everyone would join in - think of the time we'd all save.

Thanks to Ashley for creating the above icon.

Do you have any blogging pet peeves?  Things we could join together and improve?  Please share in the comments, lets make blogging easier and more fun.

Today's song is another discovery thanks to Cindy at Quaint Handmade - Teddy Thompson.  Love him!

Jamie that photo is splendid. what a grand view. Oh my. It glows with beauty. when I see images such as this I realize I've a lot to learn!
I've been considering turning off word verification for some time now, but I'm concerned about getting spammed. is this not a concern for you? I closed my Facebook account because of spamming troubles and I just don't want to revisit that. hmmm. I'm thinking about this.

Thanks so much for the word veri link. I'm taking mine off and going to see if it turns into a pickle.
Cheers!

Love the photo and thanks for passing along the word verification info - we're starting a revolution!

Glad you enjoyed a day off! Living here in Memphis is surreal - Dr. King was shot and killed here and I have been to the Lorraine Hotel which is now the National Civil Rights Museum and stood exactly where he did. It made my head spin.

YAY for the turn word verification off movement!

I turned off my word verification long ago, but I approve everything before it is posted. Think of all the Viagra ads I have spared eveyone. lol I agree we could all save a lot of time if this were to catch on.

Lovely perspective in this image. I read a biography of Martin Luther King a while ago and was glad I had. It filled in the detail behind 'I have a dream'.

Beautiful picture- it draws the eye right in.
I turned off the irritating word veri a while back and I haven't noticed an increase in spam so far.

You know, I didnt realize I had word verification until recently?
But the comment approval annoys me even more. I can't go back and edit my comment if I made a typo or wanted to add something extra, since I can't see what I wrote.

I've never had word verification, and in the five years I've been blogging, I've had less than 10 spam comments. I just go in and delete them when it happens. I'm with you, it's a pain.
Another beautiful photo!

What a beautiful photograph Jamie!
I am glad you are almost all caught up, and I hope to be the same by the end of the day, as the new semester begins tomorrow, and I am back to work.

Have a wonderful day!

Love that photo...stunning! As for word verification, I turned mine off a couple of weeks ago, and although I've gotten a little bit of spam, it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Also, Blogger has filtered out quite a bit of it into the spam folder, so at least it doesn't show up in the comments (usually)! And, yeah...that word verification is a real pain in the butt, and sometimes knowing that certain sites have it, will make me opt to not comment that day.

I have it when you push the comment link and it takes you to whole other page. I like it when they set it up and it's just a little pop up screen so you can refer back to the post if you need to...you have it set up this way and I really like it. Absolutely beautiful photo as always!!

Absolutely love your shot and I absolutely hate that pesky word verification! it would be great if everyone turned it off, sometimes I can't even read it properly.

I abhor word verifications so MUCH!!! I've so always thought about creating an icon about it, haha :) It's totally punishing readers of blogs, that's what I think :)

I have always disliked word verification too - I have it turned off (I think). :) But I also dislike RSS feeds turned to minimal. I don't have a fast enough internet connection to load every blog post! If someone has a minimal feed, I unfortunately don't read it.

love your photo and thought of you when i heard teddy! i have word verification because i don't always have access to my email and want to try an eliminate spam comments, but agree that it can be annoying.

You've pretty much hit on my two blogging pet peeves here.

The other thing that really bothers me is getting those comments that say, "I'm following you, now follow me back!" They obviously haven't read a single post and they're just hoping to build their own following. No thanks.

Uh oh, I have word verification on mine! But I too don't want the spam filtering through. Maybe I'll just see how approving comments goes but I don't always have e-mail access so that could be a bother. Hmmmm. Food for thought.

Beautiful photo!
