Do Something

I had a post planned for today - I was going to share this awesome song my sister introduced me to (this house sharing is already paying off) and tell you all to have a relaxing, lazy weekend.

But after getting up this morning and hearing about the earthquake and tsunami I have a different message.  Instead of being lazy this weekend, why don't we all do a few things:

  • Send up some prayers for all those affected
  • Consider a donation to the Red Cross or your favorite charity
  • Take a minute to take stock of how prepared you and your family are for an emergency.  Do you have a 72-hour kit?  Some extra water in the house?  A plan to communicate and meet up in case you are separated?  If not, maybe it's time to get a few things in place.
  • Make sure those around you know how much you love them -  take a minute to say the words.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected.

This is indeed a lovely post. Today's tragic events in Japan serve as another sobering reminder to take nothing for granted and appreciate what's truly important, since life can change in a flash. My heart goes out to all beings, human and non-human, who are suffering in Japan... and elsewhere around the world.

Wonderful post Jamie. I watched in tears yesterday as the news unfolded, all that devestation and loss of life was heartbreaking to see. So many disasters around the world at the moment, my thoughts go out to everyone in need x

I learned a lot after a flood devastated our home last summer...and your donations don't go where you think they do. Although the Red Cross did help us a lot... They'll help for six weeks after a disaster, then they leave an area, but they only help provide vouchers to those who they determine have been rendered devastated by the disaster. Just a hundred bucks or so, which helps, granted...but they people who are in there helping rebuild and doing the hard labor are the churches. They're the only ones who stuck around and continued to help after those first few days.

A wonderful call to action, with some great reminders! Life can change in the blink of a moment - sometimes for the better, sometimes to disaster.

My heart breaks when I see the devation over there . Anything is possible in this world. I agree give to the RedCross and do what we can , where we can. My Prayers are with and for the people of Japan and all who have been shocked affected in anyway.
