Group of Three

Kat Sloma over at The Kat Eye View of the World has a wonderful series called Exploring with a Camera.    I decided it was time I test myself with a challenge after giving them up for the winter.  The current challenge is Groups of Three.

Using my niece Miss M as an assistant, I attempted to capture some decent photos of my 3 silver boxes (given to me by a friend just before I left India.)  I decided while I was experimenting I was going to really go for it - so I put my camera on Manual - first time I've every posted a photo taken while using the Manual settings.

I still have a lot to learn about the Manual settings, setting up a still life, etc.  But it felt great to experiment. What was the last thing you experimented with?

While we are on a numbers theme, I've been waiting for an excuse to post this song - I'm going to go ahead and force it to fit with this post:

Gemma Hayes - Two Step

SWAP reminder:  If you are participating in the swap you should be sending out your package to your partner in the next couple of days. Pin It

your three boxes are wonderful and remind me of disco balls. your first outing on manual looks really good. i'm kind of in between and usually shoot on aperture and let the camera choose the speed.

Great shot and you did great in manual! They are beautiful little boxes. I want. My package is boxed up and ready to go to the post office tomorrow!

Jamie, nice manual shots! The boxes were perfect for the group of three challenge. Those are fun challenges.
All the goodies are gathered - packing up my swap box tomorrow :)

I don't know if it's your clever camera work or the boxes themselves, but those are the most beautiful silver boxes I've ever seen!

Strawberries were my last photo adventure. I'm always amazed at how much more I see when looking through the tiny viewfinder.

First, the boxes are really beautiful. A very antique, ethnic vibe that I tend to gravitate towards.

I love how you captured the 3 lovely boxes, which must have been difficult since they are all mirrored. Um, me thinks someone is showing off with their bad arse camera skills! Yes? Ohhh, yes!!

Great job!!

Those boxes are beautiful, and make lovely subjects for your still life. And yay! for you shooting in manual. It's really very easy once it 'clicks' for you. The book Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson really helped me wrap my mind around how shutter/f-stop/ISO all work together. I think you did a great job! And thanks again for putting the swap together!

I love the black & white, I adore the boxes and I think both your captures are gorgeous. If I HAD to pick one it'd be the first because you can see more detail of these lovely little ornaments.

You did great on these boxes, Jamie! They look so gorgeous and I love the soft tones! I also try to add something to the group of three but so far I didn't like what I photographed, so I have to experiment a bit longer... ;-) And thanks so much for organizing the swap :-)

Wow, so many great things here to comment on! I love the boxes, perfect for the group of three experimentation. I love that you had a photography assistant - how awesome is that. And great job playing with manual! I don't do it often either but setting up a still life like this is a perfect opportunity to experiment I think. My favorite image is the second one - both the exposure/lighting and the focus really work for me in that image. Thanks so much for linking in!
