Playing with Textures

kimklassencafe
It's been a while since I played with textures, so when I saw Kim Klassen's new Texture Tuesday challenge I knew it was time to experiment.  Her Friday Freebie, Warm Sun, was perfect to for some extra photos I had leftover from Kat Sloma's group of three challenge.  I had a great time experimenting and learned a few new things along the way.

Butterflies SOOC
Here is the SOOC photo.

Butterflies w/Kim Klassen's Warm Sun
Here is the edited photo - I added a soft light layer, adjusted the levels and applied the texture  3 times using different mixes and opacity levels.

Butterflies w/ Kim Klassen's Celebrate January and Chamomile
I had so much fun experimenting, I decided to see what I could do with different textures.  The above uses a mixture of Kim's Celebrate January and Chamomile.

Butterflies Jerry Jones' Grunge Scratched Textures
This one uses a couple of Jerry Jones' Grunge textures.

Kim's Warm Sun texture brought one of my favorite songs to mind - and it played over and over in my head while I worked.  Joseph Arthur's -  In The Sun (Album)

Stunning. Butterflies are a natural weakness of mine. Seeing the way you've worked these textures onto your snap, WOW!

Not being a true 'photography' person I am fascinated by the different textures you used. Amazing how different each can look. Glad you had fun doing it. tfs.

To be honest, I think the original is far and away the best. But don't take any notice of me - I'm just not a texture gal!

Great texture work. It always amazes me how adding one and switching the blending modes can change the feel of a photo like that.

Jamie, you've done a great job with the texture editing! I'm always amazed at the qualities that textures can add. Such fun!

The butterflies are gorgeous, but I'm awed by what the textures did to the original photo. I can't decide which one I like the best!

All of these are so pretty, including the one without the textures. You are braver than me...I never know what texture to choose-feels like potluck or magic if it works. You seem to have a knack for putting them together.
