Royal Wedding Party

Party Decorations
Shorty after we heard there was a royal wedding in the works, my sister and I started talking about our memories of Charles and Diana's wedding.  We were staying at our Aunt's house and she got us up early so we could share the experience.  Since we are living together again we decided we wanted to make this wedding memorable for my niece who is the same age as her  mom was when Charles and Diana were married.

Party Spread 1
We started planning and talking it up so Miss M would be excited.  The lovely Joanna got us started right, when she sent a beautiful tea cup with happy couple on the front.  I tracked down some beautiful templates designers had posted that we used for decorations (here and here) and we started planning the menu.

Maggie at Party
Thanks to modern technology, we didn't get my niece up early to watch (although we did the 3:45 AM thing.)  That afternoon we had english scones with cream and jam, shortbread cookies and just for fun, cupcakes.  We put on our fanciest jewelry (wished we thought to buy/find/make hats) and put Miss M in the princess dress grandma sent for the occasion and settled in to watch the festivities again.

N & Kids
Tiny T had no interest in the wedding, but he thought the food was delish, even if he had no clue what we were up to.

Did you watch the wedding?  Did anyone else throw or attend a party or are we the only (slightly) nutty ones?

I can't get enough of the new Adele album - her cover of Lovesong is classical beautiful just like the wedding.

What a wonderful idea this was Jamie! Surely something your niece will always remember. I was only able to watch bit and pieces because I was at work, but she sure was a most beautiful bride.

awwwwwwww!
you are the bestest bestest aunti ever, jamie!!!
what a brilliant and sincerely lovely thing to do ... making memories is the living of life ... yay!

i love the royal family completely and even though i don't follow every step, my heart melted to a puddle when i would see the queen mother, and i get this really soft spot when i see queen Elizabeth ... totally embraced diana's wedding and admired and loved her so ... it is indescribable this desire to watch their lives ... and i knew deep down, even though i have been running low on sleep recently, that if the stars would allow, i would 'be there'! ... and sure enough, my menopausal clock struck 4 am (central standard time) and i arrived at the wedding just in time to see william make his journey towards the abbey ...

i wasn't pretty ... just me, wrapped in a quilt in my jammies ... but i was completely enchanted by the entire festivities ... it was magical ...

bless your lovely heart ... : )

I love that your had a party for the wedding! If I didn't have to work that day..I totally would have!

I watched some of it live while getting ready for work. I watched the rest at home with my mom. It was, of course, beautiful!

You did Kate & Will proud with your planning, and I am so glad you had a great time. It was a beautiful wedding. The Adele album is fantastic, and I watched her on TV the other day (Graham Norton show) in which I thought she was so funny (the show also had the actors who played Kate & Will in the film (can't believe they made a film of them already!), here is the link to see the show if you fancy! http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b010vd3m

I think your princess is much much better looking! Even though Kate is not bad either.

Jamie, what a grand idea! Kids often get us excited and engaged in activities that as adults, we may not do. You will be creating memories that you'll hear repeated when you are old - how cool is that?!

What a cute, cute, cute idea! My daughter would have loved a princess party to celebrate anything. She's too young to understand even the idea of a wedding, but she would have loved the party anyway. :)

Since we Brazilians have no connection to the Royal family or England for that matter, I didn't really get into the royal wedding too much. T_T I was a wee little baby when Charles and Diana had theirs, so maybe that has something to do with it too, since my mom always talked about it regardless of being Brazilian, haha.

Still, I think it's awesome that you had your party with your sister and niece (and the party crasher guest who only came for the food). I miss my sisters dearly and seeing something like this makes me want to go back and see them even more.

I'm glad I'm not the only one...

I was embarassingly excited about the royal wedding all day Friday and during breakfast on Saturday. We were over at my sister's house so it was me and the females who watched the wedding coverage while sipping tea and eating homemade scones.

I was blown away with the whole wedding. I cried twice (first when I saw Kate get out of the car for the first time--I kept repeating "She's so gorgeous!" to everyone, and then when Will was saying he vows. I was a puddle). Did you see when Kate was walking down the aisle Harry looked back and said "Just wait until you see her"? Then they cut to Kate and then back at Will + Harry and you can see Will sneak a peek back at his beauty. I died! I had to watch that part over again.

It was just all magic. True genuine love that you can see all over their faces.

I'm glad you were able to experience it with your sis and niece!

Oh my how fun! I didn't watch the wedding...I did however watch the days leading up to it where they showed the wedding of Diana and Charles and I saw the encore of Will & Kate's wedding. But what you all did for the kids was so fun and exciting! Kudos! Happy Weekend friend!

Great job Jamie keeping the family tradition alive!! After you reminded me of our all night party almost 30 years ago, I too decided another Royal Party was in order! This time around I had my daughters, daughter in law, niece, and some friends over. We started the party at midnight serving, tea and scones along with cucumber sandwiches and other goodies using my friends finest tea set. Our dress was a little more causal,-- pjs although my friend did have a very nice hat! After the ceremony while waiting for the "kiss" we had pancakes and hot chocolate. Then we finally broke up the party as there was work and school attend to. I must be honest, this time around it took me a couple of days to recover, but it was well worth adding these new memories! The only thing that would have made it even better would have been to have you and Nicole here. I love that you keep these traditions going and in such an amazing way!!

How fun that you did this for your niece. I didn't watch...I don't really "do" TV or news. Things go right on by and I miss them-sometimes that's a good thing, but sometimes, like this, not necessarily.
As for Adele, my Meniere's disease is lightening up in my left ear (temporary, but I'm happy for what I can get) and I can hear her-thankfully. She is an amazing talent. Soulful personified. I keep thinking she's be dissed for her "look" on Amer Idol, but wow that woman can sing. I'm glad I'm not missing that.
Happy day to you Jamie. Appreciating the kind comments you've been leaving for me of late.
