All in the Details

A lot of little things seemed to catch my eye on this trip.  It may be because I spent most of the trip as a commuter and didn't have a ton of time to play tourist and take in the sites.  Here are a few of my favorite random day in the life shots:

Waiting for the train (grunged)
I saw these bikes while I was waiting on the train in Friborg

Along the tracks
I walked past this house every morning on my way to the bus stop.

Woodpile (grunged)
This may be the most orderly woodpile I've ever seen

Pully Houses
The houses/shops across for the bus stop where I switched lines each evening.

Parking Signs
Mirrors at nearly every driveway.

Over the past 5 years I've spent so much time away from home, first in Brazil, then India and finally Kentucky, it felt like I was always experiencing a new place.  Then as I settled in at home for 8 months (most of which was winter), I think I let myself get into a bit of a rut.  It was nice to shake things up and feel inspired to look around again, now I just have to figure out how to keep the inspiration flowing at home.

This song came on as I was walking to my apartment on Friday - it was one of those songs I felt could have been written about me.

Holly Williams - Let Her Go
Let her go, let her go
Let her fall, let her fly
She wants to touch the whole world with her hands

One of those rare times YouTube has let me down, you'll just have to track it down on your own.

I'm really liking this uniquely intimate look at your route here and there these past couple of weeks. your photos leave me with more questions than answers and that's one of the best things about photos that I really like. they stir me in a sensual way. I hope you find inspiration in your home state for a good long while!

I really love the shot of that house you passed. It really makes me want to go inside and look around. Those tiny little windows upstairs are so cute.

Hi Jamie,
Love the pictures.
I really enjoyed reading your letter to Kat. Such experience is fabulous and I think travel is a wonderful thing. It touched home with me. I shall shortly be moving on to my fifth country. I've been thinking a lot about the concept of 'home', and what it really means after moving around so much. A post for later I think as right now my head is in the packing boxes!
Have a lovely weekend. Liz xxx

I love the picture of the bikes. It's very atmospheric. I found my eye was drawn to the out of kilter bar on the window.

I actually love these shots - I feel like I get a more realistic perspective than the traditional touristy shots.

I love all the details! That's what makes photographing a place so interesting to me. Thanks again for your guest post and I'm glad you are home safe!

I loved your guest post on Kat's blog. I left a comment there, but then realized you might never see it! These detail photos are wonderful; my favorite is the one of the woodpile.

My grandmother had an orderly woodpile, your photo reminded me of her.

Oooh I like seeing these. Sometimes when I'm out taking photos, after I've taken the obvious if I just stop/slow down, I find more. That's what these remind me of "the little things". I'd like to cite the author, but don't know....I wrote down this quote last month as a reminder to myself "the capicity for delight is the gift of paying attention". Looks like you understand that very well. Hope you can find those same things now that you're home.

Enjoyed your "random day in the life shots"! They tell us more about how folks live than the classic tourist shots can. Very nice. Hope you are able to dig deeply into your everyday experience to reveal similar scenes at home.

sometimes a rut is just what happens after we have been caught up in a busy life and needed to get our minds back on track. looks like it is working for you. the mirrors at the end of the drive really caught my eye very interesting

happy 4th! Oh the photos are so fun and beautiful. They are things that you see everyday, but it's interesting to see them or know about your journey. And I feel like each photo has a story to tell. Love it. I'm sure you will be inspired once you get home :)

That wood pile is so gorgeous! For something so simple, it's stunning. Absolutely an Athropologie cataloge background.

I love that first house. It seems so homey and nice. I wonder what kids of people live there. Is that considered a big house that would be really expensive to buy?
