Hometown 4th of July

T Face Paint
Maggie in Shades
My favorite way to celebrate the 4th of July is in my tiny hometown.  Everyone gathers at the park where there is good food, games and races for the kids and usually lots and lots of sunshine.

After lots of prep and coaching in the weeks leading up to the big race my niece pulled off a win, her second in 3 years.  My nephew did well too - 3rd place isn't bad for a 2 year old.  Next time I think we'll make sure to give them the cotton candy before the race - a little sugar can only help their speed.

Looks like a really sweet time - I think I need to get back to basics and have a similar Independence Day next year.

I have to agree with you. Obviously I don't go back to my "hometown" for fourth of July, since they don't celebrate it back in Brazil, haha. But I *do* prefer to go to the parade in the small suburb where my American "surrogate family" lives. Everyone comes back and it's sort of like you describe there. Nothing like it. Makes me all warm inside to have chosen this country to pledge my allegiance to.

ps.: I've got your cd ready to ship. :)

Small community celebrations are always nicer than the big things I think - I always begrudge going to things like that when I'm back home but it's actually really lovely to seen everyone you've grown-up with and enjoy the "community feel".

Jamie, you certainly have the cutest models! I remember those sugar fix days with our daughter - not a good thing, but maybe on race day.....

Looks like a fun time. I live in a smallish community and studiously avoid all the hometown events. Perhaps I'm missing out. Your niece and nephew are cute as can be. Love the shot of her styling in her sunnies.

Such great pictures, I love the little firecracker face painting, so cute. I totally can't wait until G gets bigger and we can do these sorts of things. Until then, we'll be in bed early cursing the fireworks for possibly waking sleeping babies! :)
