Luzern - Old Town

Bridge and Tower
One of the highlights of my trip was meeting up with the incredible Krystal - we've been blogging buddies for a while and it was so fun to finally meet her in person.  She graciously got up extremely early to meet me at the Zurich train station for breakfast on my last day in Switzerland.  She was even more lovely in person, and if you don't already read her blog, you really should check it out, she finds and shares the most beautiful things.

Luzern Old Town
Krystal has just moved to Luzern, a charming little city I visited on my first weekend there (turns out she was there that day showing some friends around too, but we didn't know that until later.)  I think she is crazy lucky to live in such a charming place.

Metal Bridge to Old Town
Luzern has a charming old town a short distance from the train station.  There are several bridges you can cross to get to Old Town, I loved both the old wooden bridge (first photo) and this lovely metalwork bridge - it was a very rainy day so the umbrellas added a bit of color.

Luzern Old Town Street
I didn't spend a lot of time shopping in old town (a three week trip in carry on luggage means no space for shopping.)  But I did stick my head into H&M to look for sunglasses since I broke mine the day before I left.  I was sad to find that I'm too old/not cool enough for the sun glasses they are selling now - how did that happen?  Instead I gave up completely on the shopping and kept wandering.

Anyone out there have any good tips on finding sunglasses this year?  I'm after a pair that doesn't cover my entire face - and that fit my sunglass rule - nothing over $30.  I've found the second I shell out more money than that they will break/get lost within the first two weeks of ownership.

I finally picked up the entire Noah and the Whale album - some very good music.  Here's their Life Is Life

What a delightful combination - charming town and visit with a blogging friend! Looks like you could have spent days taking photos in Luzern. It's so picturesque!
Sunglasses, well I just get some not expensive ones, as they get lost or scratched so easily.

I've only been to Switzerland in passing, but your photos make me want to spend some time there.... I love the architecture of old towns. Oh, and my little girl is sitting on my lap as I listen to the song and she likes it. :) In fact she wants me to play it again.

What an utterly charming, fairytale-looking place! Those buildings are exquisite, and I love, love, love the two bridges! Is that winding little lane in the last photo cobblestone? What a wonderful place to visit, made even better by getting to enjoy it with a blogging buddy who lives there! ("Crazy lucky" - you've got that right!)

My sunglasses are prescription - wish I could just buy some otc! - so I'm no help. (Lost a pair to a rogue wave in the Costa Rican surf on my first day of a 2-week vacation there - that was distressing on several levels!) Good luck on your quest, if you find a perfect pair, get two! :-)

well the tones in the first photo are what I love. the simplicity, it's a beautiful expression Jamie. while looking at these images from a foreign land I find myself wondering how it is they are so expressive with charm and color, etc. just look at that. maybe I live in the wrong spot. hmmmm. very nice reflections. I'm happy you were able to be there so that you could share this - I get to travel the world through you, so thanks.
and...I say that is one very well-produced video too.

I have had the same problem finding sunglasses, but finally had great success at Cabella's.

it's wonderful to meet blogging friends in person and incredible how much you find you know about each other. luzern looks beautiful and my favorite sunglasses are ray-ban. i've had them for years, although they are a bit crooked.

i think it is so neat to finally meet up with someone you talk to cyberly for so long. Some of my best friends now I met years and years ago on the internet. the world is a smaller place I think this way.

I loved that metal bridge picture so pretty and what charm.

I love the looks of this place ...you captured some gorgeous shots.
As for sunglasses....I'm wearing my tiny wire glasses with no rim. I'm hopelessly out of date-and I think maybe I'm fine with that. Keeping up takes so much effort. As for your purchase "rules" I'm right there with you.
House yet?

Absolutely beautiful...going to show my family in hopes to get them excited enough to put it on our list of places to visit!

Thanks too for the link to Krystal's site...it IS fabulous.

I may not be the best person to ask about glasses ;) I wear prescription glasses and so don't pay for sunglasses-I use the glasses that many senior citizens wear, they slip over my glasses and are cheap to replace. My husband and I call them "Norman's" and "Norma's" because that's what we look like when we wear them. They work though and we love them enough to forgo some style. $20 Walgreens.

Jamie, you made me smile this morning looking at your beautiful pictures of Luzern. We have wedding pictures in those same locations. Wow! Still as lovely as it was 12 years ago:)
