Carter's Peak

Carters Peak 2

For the first 18 years of my life I saw this peak nearly every day of my life.  It was a grounding point, the mountain I looked at in the morning on the way home from school and each evening at the end of the day.

It seems impossible, but I've now spent more years away from it than I did with it.  I've seen some of the most amazing places on earth - but Carter's Peak still says home to me.

Do you have something that says home to you?  A lake?  A building?  A river?

I've spent the week with the new Ryan Tanner EP playing, it is amazing, I love his "Don't Forget to Take it With You When You Go," take a listen:

This is amazingly beautiful!

Oh, I guess I have - at the three different places I call home; where I grew up, where I studied and where I eventually ended up. But there´s these places at those three locations that makes me thin: "Oh yes, I´m home". :-)

I grew up with the Wasatch Mountains as a familiar thing that says home, but now I think about cactus and warm weather as home. Happy Birthday today. Are you in town this week? Lets do lunch or dinner one day if you have time.

I have a mountain, too- Ben Lomond, which our house looks towards in the distance. When it comes into view I know I'm home.
Lovely photo :)

This is beautiful! Very picturesque place. Kentucky Lake is probably that place for me. Anytime I get close to it, the memories on that lake growing up come flooding back.

For me that's the beach. It's the first place I went to visit after i got to my parents'. Even though we have beaches in Sydney, but it's not the same.

What a beautiful view to have grown up with! I love the vistas that the West provides. I have lived a number of places in my life and each holds a place in my heart, as each has been "home".

That's how I feel about the hills in Austin.

What a sight! Funny but now that you mention it I can't think of a landmark that does that for me. Maybe it's that I have created a new home for myself. Good question. Worthy if thought, thanks!

Gorgeous! To have this kind of view as the grounding monument in your life, you're a lucky girl.

I'm also at the point where I've spent more years living away from where I grew up than not. It's surreal. I don't think i have any grounding scenes, but maybe the sand dunes at the coast nearby...

Beautiful picture Jamie. You've got me thinking about my "home" place and I'm not sure if I have one although the smell of gum trees always makes me homesick.

A lovely view, I can see why you're drawn to it. How insightful to notice that you've spent more time away than with it.
For me...ocean. I lived away from the ocean for about 20 years, but feel at home when there is an "edge" to my world. If you know where the ocean is, you can't get lost. Hope all is well.

this is such a gorgeous shot. i love the tones and the big sky. we still feel like the world trade center spoke most to us of being home, but the empire state building is a close second.

I know it's cliche, but for me it's true; there is simply no place like home.
Beautiful image Jamie!

what an unusual peak it is, but I really like the way it looks. I can see why and how it would be a beacon for you. there's something comforting about it - a softness. great colors. happy day to you Jamie.

Where I grew up there were no remarkable geographic landmarks--Kansas and rural Ohio. I would love to look out on a vista like this.

I guess it was never something that I really thought about until now. But honestly, it is an object. The front door at my parent's house. Doesn't matter how many homes I have lived in, or different places I have been, seeing that door is a warm comfort to me.
