Taksim Trolley

Trolly
There is an amazing photo in the lobby of my hotel in Istanbul of the Taksim Trolley - I've even attempted to talk them into giving it to me (only half jokingly.) The photo appears to have been taken on a quiet morning with just a hint of fog, every time I walk past it, I feel myself stopping and wondering about the photographer and the mood he/she was in that day. My first glimpse of the trolley happened on a Saturday evening outing to Taksim. By the time we crossed paths with the trolley it was already dark - which made capturing a photo of something moving that much more difficult.

Trolly 2
Every time it passed by I started snapping - at one point I think I stood on the middle of the tracks in a modified version of chicken trying to get a clear shot. I'm nowhere near capturing the mood and beauty of the photo in my hotel - which just gives me an excuse to keep trying.

Do you have a subject or photo you keep going back to in an attempt to make the result match your vision?

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year's this weekend. I'm looking forward to greeting the new year a few hours earlier this year - and discovering how it is celebrated in Istanbul.

I have to share a new discovery to my every growing list of bearded singer/songwriters, Robin Pecknold, here's his: "I'm Losing Myself."

Hey Jamie....I would love to see that photo you describe, but I like your versions. I love trains-and want to "catch" them as they speed by.
I get the wanting to capture something. There are places I go to several time before coming back with a shot that pleases.
Enjoy New Years in Istanbul. Sure to be exciting. Hope that's not a place they shoot guns in the air. If so-be careful.

I'm still learning that 'life in action' is, while maybe not perfect, more realistic and in tune with my daily life. I keep trying to get a 'perfect' posed picture of my granddaughter, but she is a ball of action and doesn't like to see a flash. In the meantime I have gotten so many life like, fantastic, pictures of her 'as is'...

Your moving train is just perfectly that.

Happy New Year Jamie.

Oh I know what you mean, there are times I have despaired at getting the shot I can 'see' in my head!

Those two may not be what you wanted, but they are both very evocative, and the first one esp is great.

i love the trolley and think you will have a lot of fun with it. all times of day, weather. i have a hard time with street photography of people, so that is something i try again and again.

wishing you a very happy new year, jamie!

Great photos Jamie. I love the red - so bright and my favourite colour which means I'm really drawn to them. Like the shutter treatment too.
Happy New Year!

That photo sounds just lovely ... I wish I could see it! Though, I have to say that I love your trolley captures ... there is something about the blurry motion that really is magical! Happy New Years!

xx Cat

ps. I have always secretly loved trolleys ... I think it is because they seem to have come from another (less complicated) era :)

Great photos! I have always wanted to do a sunrise mountain shot with fog surrounding the mountains but leaving the tips clear.. I saw it in a gallery, and told myself one day I will get a shot like that.
I was leaving an airport in PA, and what did I see.. the sun rising, fog, and mountains.. where the hell was my camera, at home in SC.. hopefully that chance will come along this year!
Happy New Year!

Just when you thought

Great blog, love your photos!
