Winter Sledding

It seems somehow fitting that I post photos of a holiday sledding trip on the same day I'm leaving for the sunny beaches of Gold Coast. It is my first visit to Australia, and I couldn't be happier (well, I could if I were going just on holiday instead of for work, but I'm sure I'll manage to fit in a bit of fun while I'm there.) At the very least it will be a chance to thaw out after a few snowy frigid days in Utah.

I'm pretty certain this was my niece and nephew's first sledding adventure - we took them to the foothills above my hometown where my brother, sister and I learned to sled.

They were both a little uncertain at first. We started on the small hills and their parents rode with them, but it only took a few rides before they were ready to go it on their own and next thing we knew they were looking for bigger hills.

Wouldn't it be amazing to have the energy of a 3 and 5 year old?

The very best part of being home for me is spending time like this with my family - memories like this are life's greatest gifts.

Any of you out there from Australia? Every been to Gold Coast? What are the must see/do's for me while I'm there?

This looks amazingly fun. You have some really fabulous family photos here. Such joy. I'm glad you had a chance to be with your niece and nephew-I remember how dear they are to you and they're growing up fast. My nephew's first tooth just fell out. I love baby teeth-and they're starting to pass by.
Travel safely to Australia. That's a long flight, but a warm arrival. Clare at Pampelmouse (?) is somewhere in Australia (yes I know it's huge, but just in case). You might check in with her.
Happy day Jamie.

The clouds in that first picture are simply marvelous.

That first photo looks magical, like the Universe was smiling on your sledding adventures! :-) The rest of your photos just exude giggles and fresh air and fun. Bet those kiddos slept well that night! :-)

Have a wonderful time in Aus, hope you're well away from all the devastating fires and smoke - so sad.

Ooooh, I hope you had a safe trip and are on your way to finding lots of awesome things to do in Australia. How fun! (even if it's for work)

We took N. sledding for the first time when she was a toddler, and I think we'll try to do the same with the little one now, except that I don't know where to go sledding in Portland, haha. I am going to miss playing in the snow with the kids. Yes, I wish I had their energy.
