Vintage Fire Truck

On our way to Gunlock Reservoir we stopped in Gunlock (a microscopic town) to check out their vintage fire truck. It was incredible looking and given the terrible fire season we are experiencing in the west, I suspect it is having a busy summer.

I don't think I can post pictures of a fire truck without thinking of one of my favorite Ryan Adams songs: Ashes and Fire.

Lyrical Musing: Go Easy

On Friday's I share a song that caught my attention. A lyric or line that made me stop and think, inspired me, or caused me to see something in a new way. I hope you'll play along and share songs that inspire you.

This photo brought to mind the first few lines of one of my favorite Ryan Adams song: Go Easy - which just happens to have a great message for all of: go easy on yourself!

What plans do you have for taking it easy this weekend? I have a feeling you all could use the break. Believe it or not, I'm traveling again this weekend - but this time it is purely pleasure. I'm off to a resort on the beach in Antalya. I plan to sit on the beach with a book and maybe if I'm feeling energetic I'll make my way to the hamam for a massage.

Fall Leaves Pt 2

Fall has officially arrived in my part of the world with it all the lovely fall leaves and some pretty amazing skies.

I'm so grateful it is Friday - I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend spent away from the computer.  Here are a few more of my favorite photos from my trip to Thanksgiving Point.

Ryan Adams has been on heavy rotation at my house this week - anyone else out there love him as much as I do?  I listened to his Oh My Sweet Carolina and it had me dreaming of my trip to North Carolina last year about this time.  I fell in love with Ashville and I dream of getting back there someday.

Doing a Doubletake

I saw this sign along the road the other day, having never seen anything like it I did a double take (and backtracked to get a photo.)   Why is it we only have speed limits posted in multiples of 5?  Maybe to make it easier to remember or to track while driving.  And, more importantly, why did they decide to break out of the mold with this sign?  Is it more effective, if only because it is so unusual?  I did notice I slowed down more than I would have if it had said 25.

Maybe there is a lesson here - standing out from the crowd could be just the thing we need to do to be noticed.

I'm stretching here, but I'm feeling the need for a little Ryan Adams in my life today, here's his "Sweet 'lil Gal (23rd/1st)"

Taxes

Taxes - I hate this time of year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm okay with needing to pay my share.  I even understand why we do.  But does it need to be so complicated?  And why is it that doing taxes makes me feel so dumb?

At least its easier to do my taxes than fix a bad relationship.  Here's a little Ryan Adams to keep me going while I sort out this mess.
