Rain Photography

A few days after reading a great post on rain photography I had the chance to put some of the lessons I learned to work.  At dusk it started raining so I grabbed my camera and headed out to the front porch and started snapping.


I quickly realized that if I wanted to capture the great reflection and light that come from wet surfaces I needed to get up close and personal.


I was rolling around on the ground trying to keep me and the camera dry but also trying to capture interesting photos.  I was in my tiny home town, so I'm sure if any of the neighbors saw they'll be asking my parents about their crazy daughter soon.


One bonus of an evening of rain?  We woke up to a rainbow the next morning.

Cumberland Falls

Long weekend? For me that equals an excuse to get away from the city.

I wasn't in the mood to go far - but I knew I wanted to get closer to nature.

Plan one - Red River Gorge died when there was a black bear sighting last week and they closed the park.  Option 2, Cumberland Falls, was up.  What a cool trip.  I took several hundred photos - don't worry you don't have to look at all of them - but it will take a few posts to get through some of my favorites.  I was a week lake for the moonbow (one of only two places on earth that experience regular moonbow sightings) but it was still a glorious sight.

I'm not feeling creative today so I'm going with the obvious song choice - Griffin House's "Waterfall."

Bootcamp Make-up

I missed day one of Bootcamp yesterday but because I am committed to completing the entire program I'm doing my assignments a bit out of order.

Day one's assignment was Ivory.  I instantly thought of elephants or a piano with lovely ivory keys - but since I don't have access to either one I decided flowers would have to get me through.  Thanks to the lovely Lexington Arboretum I was able to complete my assignment.

If you are visiting my little blog for the first time thanks to Bootcamp - I close all my posts with a song, my little attempt at putting a soundtrack to my life, because I believe a life without music just isn't much of a life.  This beautiful song  relaxes me and takes me to a quiet place - just as a trip to the arboretum does.

Cheap Color

Last week I moved with the team in Lexington to a new office - and its possible I'll be working here until the end of October - practically forever for me.  Everyone in the team started bringing in a few items from home to decorate and make their offices a little more pleasant.  I wanted to do the same, except I don't have much at my apartment here in Lexington that could be brought.  I decided it was time to stretch my creative muscles.

I started with a couple of turquoise table clothes I brought home from Delhi that I had used to decorate my bedroom there.  Next came a few items from Target's Liberty of London line - some folders and a pretty pillow, I also nabbed a bright pink lamp on sale for $14.

Next up I hit Goodwill and found some cheap picture frames and a mirror (the entire set was under $10) add in a couple cans of spray paint and I had some colorful art for the wall.  I finished things off with a silk art print I picked up in Thailand last month, a lamp I found on super clearance at Homegoods and some silver boxes a friend in India gave me.

I'm loving my cheap and colorful office and have been enjoying this week while listening to Griffin House - a new discovery thanks to a recommendation from Katie C.
