On the Waterfront

I grew up in a landlocked state, so I didn't discover the joys of living near the water until I found myself living in Seattle a decade ago. Once I got used to life near the mountains and the water, I didn't every want to live another way.

Istanbul is surrounded by water, from the Bosphorus and all its bridges to the Golden Horn, it is hard to  not see water. Every time I've crossed the bridge in the background of the photo above it has been full of people fishing off the side.

I'm not sure I'm ready to take to the water on one of these boats - given that the Bosphorus is also full of oil and other tankers, I'm thinking I'd feel safer on something a bit larger.

This song has been a big hit in the US, it's a great celebration of a lazy day spent out on the water: Little Big Town - Pontoon.

The whole landlocked state thing sticks. I really wish we lived near the ocean...but I do love Iowa though too.

These photos are great!

"... on the pontoon..." I'm sorry, but that is one of the worst country songs I've heard in a long while! But I still love ya!

Fishing off that bridge? That must be quite the thrill.

In the UK you're never that far from the sea! But I'd love to live nearer to it. I love the juxtaposition between the new and the old in that first photo.

I could use a day on one of those boats, just floating, relaxing and maybe doing a little fishing. Great pictures.

Totally agree, water is so fascinating - streams, lakes, rivers, oceans. It's always a joy to live by or visit water. Great for photography, too!

P.S. Love the images of your brother and s-i-l. They must be thrilled!

Although we live near one of the Great Lakes, it just doesn't seem anything like living near the sea. I would just love to be close to the ocean. I'm another huge fan of that first photo!

My husband has always wanted a sail boat~wooden, thank you very much. I'd be OK with just a kayak.

That first boat...awesome! I love that you shot it straight on, using a wide angle. Result = fabulous!
