Wood Houses of Istanbul

I'll be honest, I can't remember what neighborhood in Istanbul these photos came from, I found them in my batch of photos from a May weekend with friends. We were wandering and found this area full of old wooden houses. Thew were so colorful and charming I couldn't stop snapping.

The colors reminded me of the painted lady houses in San Francisco, even though the styles are different. I also loved the diversity of the neighborhood.

Not all of them were colorful - this one looked like it was on it's last legs and was crying out for someone to come along and give it some love. A google search tells me these wooden houses are somewhat famous and rare - many were destroyed by fire.

These are wonderful, Jamie, and what fun it must have been to photograph them. I especially love the last one here.
Thank you for sharing.
Have a wonderful day!

I love the variety of colors. My favorite picture is of the home needing some love.

Hi Jamie, it does seem an amazing contrast to see wooden houses in Istanbul..the last one looks so poignant...weak and forlorn, beside one so strong and durable..❤

I think the last one is probably haunted!

Oh, that last one. Can you imagine the stories those planks might tell if only they could talk?

Hey Jamie. Hi, I'm Susan. At this point you've probably all but forgotten me. LOL. Missing in LR and PS land, sadly not blogger land.
Love seeing these colorful houses. Here in New England it's rare to see anything like that, especially clumped together. Usually it happens with some daring artist.
Hope all is well with you.

oh my... what a treat to visit here (after far too long) and see the visual treats you've been posting. I always feel like I'm traveling vicariously when I see photos from places I'd like to visit. Amazing shots. (and nice to "see" you)

So lovely...and, an area of Istanbul that most people don't end up seeing, I'll bet! (I sure didn't...way back when ;D). I would never have guessed where those pictures were from, if you hadn't said. Very cool, indeed, and beautifully captured. Like others have commented, there's something really special with that last one...

These colorful houses make me think of the row houses in Charleston. One of my favorite things to photograph. I'm enjoying catching up with your blog---and love seeing more of Istanbul.
