Lyrical Musing: Fix You

In an attempt to get back to one of my great loves (and the original inspiration for this blog) on Fridays I'm sharing a song I heard during the week where the lyrics made me stop and think. A lyric that made me suddenly realize something new, inspired me to change or look at something differently.

This week's song is from Coldplay: Fix You.

"When you get what you want, but not what you need."

I couldn't help but think of how many times in life I haven't recognized the difference in what I want and what I need. The song made me grateful for my faith in a God who know and loves me and sometimes doesn't answer those prayers I send up for things I want - but which He knows are really not what I need.

Giveaway: Postcards

I'm interrupting my endless travel stories for a very good reason - a giveaway.

The day before I left for Switzerland I got some postcards I had made in the mail (in preparation for Kat's Postcard Swap.)  It was such a rush to see my photographs printed as postcards - when I opened the package I felt like an artist!

UPrinting

When UPrinting, an online printing company, asked me if I wanted to do a postcard giveaway, I said yes right away.  Even if you aren't participating in Kat's swap, I can think of several postcard designs that might come in handy - Christmas cards, invitations, even something for your business.  Here's some details on the giveaway:

The winner will receive 100 5x7 postcards, printed on 14 pt Cardstock, gloss, no folding, with front and back printing.  There is a two business day print turnaround time and (sorry) the giveaway is restricted to US residents 18 years old and above.

Faces of Thailand

One of the things I enjoyed most about my short visit in Thailand was how genuinely friendly everyone was.  I felt like an honored guest wherever I went.  People went out of their way to smile and make me feel welcome.  Here are just a few of the faces I managed to grab shots of along the way.

I like Coldplay - but I'd put them aside because, to me, the songs all started to sound the same.  When I found this mix of "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" I was pleasantly surprised - enough to put them back into rotation again.

I finally remember to take a camera with me on a walk to the local market just so I could share a picture of this sign with you.


The first time I saw the sign I laughed because I couldn’t believe something like that was necessary. Now that I’ve been here a while I laugh because I can’t believe that signs like this do no good. Every where I go I’m guaranteed to see at least one guy stop what he was doing, turn his back and let loose.

Ironically, my friend Leo took this photo directly across the street from the sign.

The men seem to feel free to treat the city as their personal toilet. I try not to think about it as I walk down the sidewalks.
