Ferry Hopping

We did a little ferry hopping to Kanlica, a neighborhood on the Asian side of Istanbul. We had two goals, get out on the water and try the yogurt that has made this neighborhood famous. It was a very successful trip.

The yogurt alone was worth the trip - it was delicious, and worth the reputation. Bonus was the people watching. We weren't in a touristy area, so it felt like we were getting a more authentic experience, with friends and families just hanging out in their own neighborhood.

Fingers crossed that we get back out here again very soon.

I've had Snow Patrol on repeat for several days now, an old favorite that just keeps getting better. I'm in love with their Lifening.

Gunlock Reservoir

2012.03 Gunlock (17 of 69)
This spring I took a Sunday drive to Gunlock Reservoir in Southern Utah, what a perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday and another reminder of how much I love that part of the world. I didn't go anywhere quite this beautiful this weekend, but I did spend a couple of perfect hours with my sister, pedicures and lunch together was just what the doctor ordered.

A White Surprise

snow 3
I woke up yesterday to a very white surprise: snow.  And not just a little bit of snow.....

Snow 1
Not only does it seem extremely early to be seeing snow (it was in the 80s last week) but take a look at the leaves on my aspen trees.  For starters - there are still leaves on the trees, and the are still GREEN.  They haven't even started to change colors!

Snow 2
I suspect (okay, I pray) this is just a freak early storm and that it will quickly melt and be back at least in the 70s again soon.  I'm just getting into the swing of Fall, I'm in no way ready for Winter.

I'm using the storm as an excuse to dig out Snow Patrol - with their songs coming through the speakers outside seems a little less dreary.

Snow? No Thanks

Even snow can't stop this

We had our first snow fall last week, it didn't last long (luckily) and we are now back to Indian summer weather.  But just after it snowed I noticed my mom's flowers were still standing strong - even covered in snow.  I hope I survive the snows this winter as well as this little flower did.  I also hope we don't see more snow for another month (I'm sure the skiers are hoping just the opposite, but I hate driving in the stuff.)

How do you feel about snow?  Love it?  Hate it?  Never see it?

All this talk about snow leads me to one thing - Snow Patrol!

Changing It Up

After yesterday's sad post and my deep dive into into the history of country music earlier this week, I'm ready to switch things up.

I discovered a few weeks ago when I posted a Snow Patrol song that many of you are fans, which makes me think you have great taste and makes me wonder why they aren't more popular, but that is another story.

For all of you, like me, who love a little Snow Patrol, here is one of my favorites, "Just Say Yes."  Hopefully it's just the thing to switch things up around here.  How many times have you wished someone in your life (or even yourself) could just let go and say yes?

The Sunday Creative - Open

As a follow up to Creativity Bootcamp, I'll be participating in Meagan's "The Sunday Creative."  She'll post a theme each Sunday for us to work on throughout the week.  I'm excited to have a challenge each week and to again be working with a group of creative and supportive artists as we each work on this project together.

When I saw today's theme, I instantly thought of a photo I captured in Thailand a couple of months ago of a line of open windows inside one of the many temples.  The shutters were made with beautiful teak wood covered in gold.  With the sun shining in and reflecting off the gold the entire temple seemed to glow.

Open was the perfect kick-off for this new project - for me the lasting lesson from Bootcamp that I plan to carry over is the need to open my eyes and other senses to the beauty all around and the opportunities to expand my skills, which makes today's song, Snow Patrol's "Open Your Eyes" a good fit.

My Ride

When I stopped at the rental counter on Saturday evening, the guy working the booth asked me if I had any preferences.  I told him I just didn't want anything "cute-sie."  Somehow I think we have different ideas of what constitutes a cute car - because this candy apple red one certainly qualifies.  I guess the good thing about spending a lot of time with a rental car is getting to try out different models, but I don't think I'll keep this one long.

Snow Patrol

This morning I spent some quality time with my driveway and the snow blower.  To keep myself entertained I brought my iPod along and put on a little Snow Patrol, which seemed appropriate.  As I worked I pondered whether it was worse to be in Utah in January where I have the pleasure of digging out about every other day or in India in July when it is 105 every day but feels closer to 115.  I came to the conclusion neither is very fun and that next year I need to figure out a way to swap things and spent January in Delhi and July in Utah.

As I pulled the shovel out to do the front porch, a song I don't remember hearing before came on and the last couple of lines gave me something else to think about:

I'm so glad that this has taken me so long
Because it's the journey that made me so strong

Isn't that a great description of so many things in life?  It was only after I got back in the house that I noticed the name of the song, "Warmer Climate" which made it even more perfect.
