Cemetery Stroll

In addition to the gardens there are some gorgeous tombstones throughout the cemetery.  Some of them are true works of art.

I fell in love with the ones in the older section of the cemetery.

Part of what makes this cemetery so gorgeous is the way it is integrated with nature.

I love today's song and have for a while but haven't posted it because I couldn't figure out how to do it without sounding morbid, but since this entire post already crossed the line I've decided to go all the way.

I am fascinated with cemeteries! I think they are so beautiful and sad. And I do like that song but I almost can't listen to it...I'm too sappy and emotional!

"funny when you're dead, people start listenin' ..."

i love that line and it is so true ...

one time when a friend was having some marriage problems, i reflected to eulogies and we discussed what we would say about our partners ... and funny how when you focus on the good of a person (like we so often sing praises about at a funeral), how much more you realize just how great they are, or can be ... : )

part of life is death, but gosh we can fear it so ...

i am so glad you photographed the cemetery ... and so respectfully ... lovely lovely ...
and thanks so much for introducing this carrie underwood song to me ...

Lovely shots you took. I love walking through cemeteries, reading the grave stones and taking photos. They are part of our collective history and so very interesting.

I love walking through cemeteries... Everything becomes so quiet. The place where we are getting married is surrounded my headstones-I think it's romantic!

Alright so cemeteries have traditionally creeped me out, but these shots are wonderful. You're so right, the tombstones really are works of art!

Beautiful photos again! There is a really old cemetary behind my parents house, my bedroom window looked out over it when I was a kid. They are just doing restoration through out the whole cemetary with a lottery heritage grant, Some of the headstones date back to the 1700's. The first place I went to practise with my new camera was the cemetary!

I too think grave stones are interesting, especially the old ones but they all have a tale that leaves you wondering what life must have been like.

these are lovely photographs. Cemeteries are amazing, just reading the tombstones and imagining and then as you say, they are works of art.

The older tombstones are so beautiful. I'm sure anything like them today would be prohibitive to create. We have friends with an amazing garden that incorporates lovely pieces of sculpture. I was amazed to discover that the designer had "rescued" discarded pieces of tombstones from the "garbage dump" of the cemetery. Evidently, if the carver makes an error, he dumps the tombstone in the garbage area and anyone can rescue a piece of it if they want. There was nothing morbid about any of the pieces he rescued.

Cemetery stolls are some of my favorites. There is a humbling silence walking through and wondering.
