Like a Kid

Photo from Apple's Website

I'm an Apple geek - I think they make amazing products and I want them all.  But I'm also a practical person, so I don't buy nearly as much or as often as I want to.  When the iPad was released I wanted one - badly.  But I forced myself to wait for the second version, knowing it is always slightly better, and waiting gave me time to save up some birthday, Christmas and credit card reward dollars.

On the day the iPad2 was released I hit 4 different stores trying to get one.  I ultimately failed because I wasn't willing to spend hours standing in line.  By the time I got around to putting my order in online there was a 4-6 week wait.  Two weeks after I placed the order I got a shipping notice from Apple, I got excited only to realize they were just shipping the case (way to play with my emotions Steve Jobs!)

I've been checking the order status twice times a week and each time I saw that it was shipping on April 21, so I prepared for a long wait.  Then on Tuesday I got a second shipping notice and started to get excited.  I watched the tracker daily to see where the iPad was.  I felt like a kid at Christmas as I watched it travel from Shenzhen China to Hong Kong to Anchorage Alaska to Memphis Tennessee and finally to Salt Lake City.

On arrival day, I worked from the kitchen table for part of the day since I can't hear the doorbell from my office and didn't want to risk missing the FedEx guy.  How geeky can a girl get?

I got exactly what I wanted a white, 32 Gig Wifi model and I'm in love with this little piece of technology.  It feels so nice in my hands and the screen is amazing. I'm just starting to research apps, do you have any favorites I need to give a try?  I'd love some advice from those of you who have iPads or iPhones.

Krystal from Village introduced me to this artist and song, isn't it amazing:
Benjamin Francis Leftwich - Atlas Hands

Here's a link to my Inspiration Studio post this week.  I shared an amazing playlist that celebrates the everyday gifts in our lives.

Congrats. I'm so happy for you. I got my iPad about 3 weeks before the new one hit the stores, that still bugs me a little, but in spite of that I love it (but I really do wish it had a camera).

congratulations!! I got my white 32gb one last week too! took me 2 weeks of going onto the website each night at 9pm when they released orders! I am loving it but sadly don't have proper internet in the rented flat and have come to the conclusion it needs internet to work to its full potential!

I am so jealous! I was looking at that yesterday in a store, marveling at how good my blog looked on it, haha!! But I'm wondering how easy it is to type on...if I got one I'd use it on the train a lot to catch up on emails, etc...which would take typing, what do you think??

Oh, so fun!
I'm saving my $$$ for a macbook. My mac mini is getting hoplessly slooooow.
I don't know if you play games or not, but I am hopelessly addicted to Angry Birds, Slingo and Scrabble.
(I have an ipod touch)
I know lots of people rave about the Instamatic app for photos.
Great song!

Talk about awesome! I keep coming up with lame excuses as to why i don't need one when the truth is that i really really want one.

The only Apple product I have is an iPod and I can't live without it. I'd love an iPad, too...

Oh YAY! LOVE my iPad - of course, I have the first version but still couldn't live without it. I heard they shipped the covers first to just about everyone. What a tease.

I had to laugh. My husband did exactly the same thing. He ordered his the day they came out and watched it sit in Hong Kong for nearly a week before it traveled the same route as yours!

Congrats on your new purchase! We are slowly becoming an apple family...we got a mac mini in December and iPhones about a week ago. I confess, I'm still getting used to the mac. The iPhone however, is my favorite new toy :)

New Toys are always so much fun. I'm waiting quite impatiently for a new camera bag to turn up. It's been months now and I'm starting to get quite antsy about it. lol. Have fun with the new ipad.

Congratulations Jamie!!!

I have to smile as I read this post. About a month ago, I decided on a MacBook Pro. I ordered it from Apple, and took the same journey from China to New York. Sometimes twice daily! Finally it was in my hands, and I am still just as excited with it as the day it arrived.

ENJOY IT!!!!

Have a beautiful day.

My husband bought us an iPad when it first came out. My original thought was - we really don't need this, being ever so practical. But, oh my, do we love it! It is so nice to curl up in a chair and read blogs, etc. So convenient and book-like. Enjoy!

Congrats on the new purchase!! I am sure you will love it. And if you have any trouble figuring it out I am sure little M&T could show you :)...for some reason these little kids seems to know more about these things then we do!!!

Hi Jamie,
You got an ipad? Congrats, that is awesome. I'm on the fence about getting one as I'm so hooked to my mac and now the Iphone that I'm not sure if I'd use it. Apps that I love are the Words with friends game. I play with my kids, so much fun. Instagram for use with the Iphone camera and to post pics on Twitter. Light Meter for use with my dslr. Have fun with your new best toy!
