Rio de Janeiro

Pre-blog and pre-interest in photography I lived in Rio de Janeiro for two years.  I regret I didn't take more photos or keep a journal during that period.  It was an amazing experience, my first time living outside of my home country and my first (failed) attempt at learning a second language.

What an amazing place, full of wonderful people and incredibly beautiful.  If you look closely in the middle of this photo, on the peak of the mountain you can see the Christ statue that overlooks the city (which is featured in the first photo.)

This week I was digging through old files trying to find some decent photos for a report I was writing on our work there, I surprised myself by finding a few gems, and thought I'd share one of the most beautiful places on earth.

This was the beach near my apartment (how lucky was I?)  All of these are SOOC and taken with an old Canon PowerShot.  Proof that beauty like Rio's will always shine through.

Did you catch my post at Inspiration Studio yesterday?  If not, hop on over, I shared one of my favorite playlists - Songs for a Rainy Day.  I hope you have a beautiful weekend.

My favorite Brazilian musical group is Tribalistas, a "super group" made up of three Brazilian singers who got together to record an album: Arnaldo Antunes, Carlinhos Brown and the amazing Marisa Monte, here's their: Velha Infancia (2004 Digital Remaster)

Once again you pull off beautiful pictures with what sounds like an ordinary old camera, probably like the one I have. I am really starting to realize that maybe it's not my camera's fault; it's my camera operator's fault for not having great pictures!!

Maybe if you go back and live there again someday, I could come visit you this time!

love your photos, especially the sunset. point & shoot or shooting on automatic, it's all good if you've got a good eye like you do.

I LOVE this music Jamie. I listen mostly to "world music" and haven't heard these guys, so thanks for sharing. when my side-kick was selling off some of his thousands of vinyls on eBay a few years back the most interest was from collectors in Brazil. !?? young people who remembered the great musical renaissance of the 80's and wanted a piece of it. I thought that was interesting. your photos are so beautiful, even sooc. you are blessed to have these memories and I'm so happy you've shared. have a great day Jamie.

Those are beautiful. You just proved that a point and shoot takes great shots too! I always seem to regret not taking more shots and writing more things down when I travel. The minds doesn't hold onto memories like you think it will!

These photos are gorgeous! South America is a continent I'm yet to set foot on and I'd love to have a decent amount of time to go slowly on buses and foot from north to south. Happy dreams.

I've been so busy I haven't been blog hopping enough. I can't believe I missed this post!!
Stunning shots which only shows to go ya it's the artist behind the camera-NOT the camera. You're a natural.
Your work must be so interesting-finding yourself in different locales all the time. I'm looking for a new career-mine is so NOT a match. What do you do? and would I like it or have ability at it?
Happy weekend Jamie.

O Rio de Janeiro continua lindo.... :)

I know that song isn't by the Tribalistas, but I love it too and it seemed appropriate. And don't feel bad about your attempt to learn Portuguese, it's a hard language. I mean, future subjunctive? Really?

Suas fotos sao incriveis. Que bom que achei seu blog.
