Proof of Spring

I live on a mountain overlooking the Salt Lake Valley, more 5,000 feet above sea level.  In my mind, there are many advantages of living up here: the views are amazing, it is quiet and peaceful, we are above the pollution that often settles in over the valley and I have some amazing neighbors.  But like all things there are a couple of disadvantages: it takes about 20 minutes to get down to a store and winter seems to hang on up here just a little longer.

While we do still have patches of snow on the grass, it is rapidly melting and on Saturday I noticed the first signs of spring in my yard as green shoots are starting to make their way above ground (if you look closely in the photo you can see a patch of snow behind the green.)

We were out Saturday evening enjoying the warmer weather and dusting the scooters off after a long winter.  It felt so good to be out there without coats and boots!  My nephew seems to share my hatred for shoes because we were both outside barefoot.  He, however was the only one to run through the snow in his bare feet - I just stood there and watched him do it because I thought it would make a cute photo.

Is winter still holding on at your house or am I the last person to see spring?

There are times when I feel like I'm experiencing my own personal spring.  I can feel myself growing stronger and getting ready to break out of my winter hibernation - ready to move forward to a brighter, shinier me.  This song reminds me of those times.

Winter is letting go slowly but surely here, but it sure has had a tough time doing so. The crocuses have been here and gone, and the daffodils bloomed just this week. I am patiently waiting for my favorites, the magnolias!
Sweet shot of your nephew, and wonderful song Jamie!

Glad to hear that spring is on it's way to you! We actually had the AC on today. That I'm not ready for.

There's no snow left on the ground, but it's rarely been out of the 30's and 40's here so winter's hanging on. Last night we had horrific thunder and lightening and 1 1/2 inches of rain. Roads were flooded and water is standing in some of our neighbor's yards. I finally saw the tiniest of buds on our redbud tree, though, so I think there's hope. It's supposed to be warmer by the weekend.

I feel as you do; the inner me is springing forward. Your nephew is so brave to run thru the snow without shoes...I just love children. Spring has arrived here and I love hearing the birds find nesting places in our evergreen trees in our backyard...a welcome sound.

We saw spring...and then it went back to hibernating. Sad. It was nice when it was here!

The amount of energy children have is really unfair!

Guess there are advantages and disadvantages everywhere! Here in Orlando, we're already into the 80's and it's getting humid again. Ugh!!! I wanna live out West!

I had no idea you still had snow! Guess it's a small price to pay for that magnificent view you have outside of your window. Have a lovely easter.

poor you with snow still. We are experiencing a heatwave here in London, wish it would last all summer. Love your signs of spring.

Beautiful post Jamie. I love the photo of the green shoots peeking through. This one of my fav times of year when the fertillity of the earth wakes up and starts spreading in abundance! Here on the Isle of Wight the green started peeking through in late february and we have had the hottest few days in April than we have had for many years (not to gloat of course!!)I hope your spring arrives soon x

I am from Europe, I live in Australia and I never felt nostalgic about spring until I got into blogging. Now all of your blogs from the Northern hemisphere have beautiful spring photos and I am longing for spring. It is my favourite season! Enjoy it.

The weather here has been crazy. One day it's 85, the next day it's 50. And we've been getting a lot of really bad storms. So I guess I wouldn't mind a little more winter if it made the storms go away!

I am wishing for more spring for you - but maybe I should come visit instead...I wouldn't have so much trouble breathing.

I keep thinking that the excruciatingly long winter will yield the most beautiful spring...I hope this is true for you! You deserve an amazing Spring!!!

Spring is my favorite time of year. The days get longer, flowers are in bloom, trees get their leaves, and my self diagnosed SAD magically disappears!

Spring definitely seems to have arrived here but our weather is extremely unpredictable and it's not unusual for us to have snow in May so I won't be complacent!

Glad you are finally starting to see some spring. Love that he is running through snow barefoot. My kinda kid!

Having lived out west, I know what difference elevation can make. You live in a beautiful area!
Spring is finally reaching us here in n. WI. Ice on the lake is out, loons are back, and we can actually see grass! We went 4 hrs south for the three day weekend and actually saw green grass and trees starting to leaf out :)

We've been full on spring for a while now and may or may not have complained a few times about it being a little too hot this early on in the year, but I have to admit I would rather it be too hot then too cold.

we've had a really late spring as well, though not quite as bad as you. i guess it makes spring that much better, or some crap like that. :)
